Bucket List

Yesterday I saw something for the first time. I saw two deer in my brother's backyard, and actually got a picture of them.

Some people might think, "That's no big deal," but it was pretty important to me.

I haven't had a chance to really sit down and compose my own bucket list. Many things are probably unattainable, and my tendency to be practical prevents me from making such a list.

However, I think I've had a few experiences that were special to me. Some may seem trivial. Some might be on your bucket list.

I rode a Berber horse in North Africa.
I dove into the Mediterranean.
I rode in a limousine.
I watched a Toronto Maple Leaf hockey game from the Platinum seats.
I rode in a propeller plane with only 18 passengers.
I saw the Rocky Mountains.
I drank wine in the Napa Valley.
Unlike Bugs Bunny, I actually stood on Pismo Beach.
I saw a bullfight.
I held a wild bird in my hand. And it lived!
I rappelled down a 300 foot cliff.
Saw a comet.
Saw the Northern Lights.
I wrote a book. Or two.

What would I add to a bucket list? This isn't carved in stone, but some of the things I'd like:

To go to New York City.
Ride a hot air balloon.
Drive a Porsche.
Build a treehouse.
Take a picture of a really, really awesome sunset.
Sail a boat.
Attend the Oscars.
Have my very own writing room, decorated my way.
I want a pony.
... and yes, I would like an agent, please.

What's on your bucket list?

Riding a camel? Seeing Scotland.

And yes! Getting an agent.

My kids rode a camel. Oh, I freakin' forgot I once sat on a buffalo! Gotta find that picture.

My list is huge, my whole blog is dedicated to it. I may have to borrow your tree house idea though!

I think the most important list you have there is the first one. We should all take a moment to recognize the cool things we DID do, rather than looking at our lives as an empty bucket!

I was in the Army
military dog handler
visited Egypt
have driven across country alone
own a house (actually 2)
have a great job I love with a retirement plan
got a college degree
lived in San Francisco
Studied wicca and various pagan religions
visited New Orleans
Saw the Alamo
Rode down the Colorado River
Saw the London Bridge in Arizona
Gambled in Las Vegas
Lived in 10 states
Lived in Hawaii
learned to scuba dive

What I still want to do?
Get three novels published before I die.
Do an RV retrofit from a box van.
Meet up with more blog friends in person.

That's it, so it must be a decent life I'm leading, or I have low expectations.

I should also add I learned to ride a motorcycle to the "have done" list. That was totally awesome. I just wish my back allowed me to push one around, I'd get one again in a heartbeat. I am considering a trike in a few years, though.

What a great list, Lynn! I forgot I'd learned to ride a motorbike when I was a teenager. Wiped out on a dirt road but it was at low speed, so I was okay.

I think I'll add a few of your success stories to my bucket list.

Another interesting train of though you started me on was the difference between the list I made at 18 for things to do in life versus the one I have now. Scuba diving was the only thing I have done on that list, and most have dropped away, like learning to fly a helicopter or parachuting.

Writing, my top thing to do, wasn't even on that list!

I want a pony, too! You've done one of mine, seeing the northern lights. I also want to visit Ireland. And go on a safari.

You have the same bucket list I do. The picture of the deer is beautiful and if it made you happy, that's wonderful. It's to see people appreciate such wonders even if small. Have a lovely day.
